Defender is Charlestown Rowing Club's newest pilot gig and top race boat. Built by Maurice Hunkin of Fowey, the boat was launched on 20th April 2009. The Defender will compete in it's first race at the upcoming World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly. The Defender is named after a gig reported in local papers as winning an under 18s race in 1926.
